How scoring is calculated
Our calculation engine adheres to standard typographic standards:
Gross WPM
Calculated as (total characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes. One standard word is defined as exactly 5 keystrokes.
Net WPM
Gross WPM penalized by uncorrected errors: Math.max(0, Gross - (Errors ÷ Minutes)). This represents your true productive typing speed.
Accuracy (%)
Percentage ratio of correct keystrokes to total keystrokes: (Correct Keystrokes ÷ Total Keystrokes) × 100.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are my typed keystrokes or results sent to any remote server?
Results remain in your browser. Cloudflare Web Analytics collects cookie-free aggregate statistics; optional Zaraz requires your consent.
How is pausing handled when I switch tabs or blur the window?
When the window or browser tab loses focus, the timer immediately freezes to avoid score distortion and resumes only when you refocus.
Can text be pasted into the typing area?
Pasting is intentionally disabled to preserve the accuracy and validity of your typing benchmark.
Does it work on mobile phones and tablets?
Yes. Choose Phone touchscreen or Tablet touchscreen for separate records. We request autocorrect and capitalization off, but the keyboard may ignore these preferences.
